Montreal is a city that is enriched by the strength and diversity of its multi-cultural mosaic. It is a city whose demographics have undergone considerable change over the years, creating whole new sets of needs for its various constituents. Furthermore, Montreal is a city in which the fastpaced rhythms and rigours of life and the broader context of diminishing budgets are also presenting individuals with an ever-growing spectrum of daunting challenges.
Since first establishing their roots in Montreal during the 18th century, the members of the city’s English-speaking Catholic community have dedicated themselves to offering care and compassion to those in need. This commitment gave birth to a host of educational, health and social service institutions. Not only have these groups and organizations represented the changing identity of the city’s English-speaking Catholic population, but through their devotion to service and their outreach to the broader community at large, they have made an invaluable contribution to the lives and well-being of individuals from all religious, cultural and social backgrounds.
Just as times change, organizations and groups must change with them. Today, to continue this work and to better provide a wide-range of services to the most people possible, the 21st Century Catholic Community Campaign was created to bring together three key organizations with a common cause and shared commitment - the Foundation of Catholic Community Services, Pillars Trust Fund and the Father Dowd Foundation.
These groups are coming together in a major fundraising effort to revitalize Montreal’s English-speaking Catholic community and to set the stage for improved efficiency and co-operation going forward to more effectively provide support for youth, young adults, families and seniors. The target of the campaign is $7.5 million.
